White Fillings Repair Cavities and Damaged Teeth

Teeth are supposed to be white. If you have a cavity or a damaged tooth and need a filling, the method used to repair your smile should complement your appearance, not draw attention to problem teeth. Dr. Raquel offers white fillings as a general dentistry treatment to all our patients.

Types of White Fillings

You want people to notice your smile because it looks good, not because you’re sporting an unsightly silver filling. Plus, amalgam fillings are made with trace amounts of mercury. Not only are these tooth repairs an eyesore within your smile and prone to expanding and breaking the tooth, they’re not healthy either.

Thank goodness for white fillings, which blend in with your teeth while protecting them from future damage. Plus, tooth-colored fillings don’t put your health at risk. Many patients are requesting to have their old silver fillings removed and replaced with white fillings – a smart choice for your health and the appearance of your smile.

There are several types of dental fillings available, and they all create and preserve a white, natural-looking smile:

  • Porcelain fillings: If you have a very large cavity or a cavity on the chewing surface of your tooth, a porcelain filling is incredibly strong and stain-resistant. You will have a restoration that corrects your problem tooth, resists wear and tear, and makes your smile look natural.

  • Composite fillings: Tooth-colored fillings are used for small or medium-sized cavities. The composite is intended to preserve as much of your natural tooth as possible, and the shade of the filling is customized to look just like your natural tooth enamel. Composite fillings are strong and durable

Inlays and onlays: Inlays cover the biting surface of the tooth, acting very much like a white filling. Onlays (sometimes called a partial crown) cover the top of the tooth while also extending over one or more of the tooth’s cusps. In both cases, the inlay or onlay enhancement is both restorative and cosmetic so your tooth is repaired and your smile looks great.

Dental Problems Repaired by White Fillings

It’s a common assumption that white fillings are only used to repair teeth that have cavities. But fillings have multiple uses, making them a versatile cosmetic dentistry and restorative dentistry repair. White fillings correct aesthetic complaints too – like gaps, discoloration, or chips – often eliminating the need for more-invasive dental repairs while still creating the smile makeover and flawless smile our patients want.

White fillings are used to:

  • Repair decayed teeth.

  • Fix chipped teeth.

  • Restore cracked teeth.

  • Prevent decay.

  • Prevent deterioration.

  • Whiten teeth.

  • Fill gapped teeth.

  • Replace old fillings.

Through advanced dental technology, we provide dental fillings that look natural, are comfortable, and last for a very long time. Even though one problem tooth may not seem like such a big deal, that troublemaker can impact the solidity of your smile. Fillings not only repair the tooth in question, they can be used to stabilize surrounding tooth structure to retain the integrity of your entire smile.
